A thirty-eight year old dream of the Arc of Wood County
became a reality when the Nichols Therapy Pool was dedicated on June 13,
1993. In 1955, The Arc (formerly the Wood County Association for Retarded
Citizens) began accepting donations for the therapy pool. A donation by
Nancy and the late John Nichols, the Arc's donation fund and donations
from other sources financed the construction of the pool.
The primary users of the pool are children, youth, and adults with mental
retardation and other disabilities who are served by Wood Lane. Many
of the the 350 youth and adults who participate in Special Olympics use the
pool for learn to swim programs and swim team practices.
The Nichols Therapy
Pool is Available for rent. Other agencies, groups, businesses, and individuals
may rent the facility. Warmer water temperatures are maintained, making
the pool attractive and beneficial. Both ongoing and special event rentals
are available.
